Frequently
Asked
Questions
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. In CSA programs community members buy into a share of anticipated harvests of agricultural products. This is helps us farmers because it allows us to buy things like seed and equipment in advance of the harvest season, and good for the community because it means that you’ll be getting a share of the freshest things from the farm. You’ll know that you’re supporting local farming and pollinators.
I can’t make it to pick up my flowers this week, what do I do?
In this situation, we recommend that you send a friend to pick up your share for the week. The flowers grow on their own schedule and our growing season is planned on weekly harvests, this makes it impossible for us to “pause” a subscription once started.
Will my flowers be in a vase?
CSA flowers are wrapped in a recyclable brown paper cone ready to go into your favorite vases at home.
What kind of flowers will I get?
We are growing a big variety of flowers including Dahlias, Marigolds, Zinnias, Celosia, Sunflowers, Cosmos and more. Each week you’ll receive a big bunch of the week’s best blooms, with some variety between bunches to allow for greater selection.
When can I pick up my flowers?
CSA Pickup is available at our farm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you’d like a farm tour please reach out, we’d be thrilled to show you the farm and what your support allows us to do.
I forgot to pick up my flowers! Can I come tomorrow?
Send us an email at sewnseeds.co@gmail.com or text at 845-242-7171. Most likely we can help!
How do I gift a flower CSA?
Go ahead and purchase a CSA like you would for yourself and send us an email explaing that you’d like to gift it. We will need the recipient’s contact information for our records, but won’t reach out directly to them so as not to spoil the surprise. We will send you back an email with a CSA Membership certificate that you can send to the recipient.
I didn’t get any confirmation emails. Now what?
Please double check your spam folder in case our email has landed there by mistake, and if it has please add us to your inbox instead. If you still don’t have a confirmation email, please reach out to us at sewnseeds.co@gmail.com and we will get in touch.
What are your growing practices? Are these flowers organic?
While we don’t have an organic certification on our farm (yet), we are a completely pesticide free farm. We do not spray any harsh chemicals or horticultural oils and make our own fertilizer from composted comfrey leaves. To help combat pests we are testing a High Brix method of growing in which we spray our plants every now and then with a very diluted solution of unsulphured molasses to help deter pests before flowering.
Do you till your soil?
We are using limited tilling practices and cover cropping to enrich our soil naturally and support the biodiversity and soil structure of our land. Like many farmers, we’ve had to start with an initial till, but hope to continue with limited tilling and deep mulching moving forward.
